What is
skills development?
I analyzed
it is the ability and capacity acquired through
deliberate, systematic and sustained effort to carryout easy and
complex activities or job functions involving ideas, as
cognitive skills, things, well known as technical skills and/or people as
interpersonal skills.
According
to what i read, skill development means developing yourself and your skill
sets to add value for the organization and for your own career
development. Continuously learning and developing one's skills requires
identifying the skills needed for mobility, and then successfully seeking out
trainings or on-the-job opportunities for developing those skills.
Developing
our skills begins with assessing which skills are important to desire a career
development. Development should come from on-the-job activities and
action learning. This can include development experiences like managing a
project, serving on a cross-functional team, taking on a new task, job
shadowing, job rotation, etc. Development should come from interactions
with others. This includes having a mentor, being a mentor, coaching,
participating in communities of practice, serving as a leader in a staff
organization, etc. Development should come from training, including
classes, seminars, webinars, podcasts, conferences, etc.
Once we
have identified the skills you need to develop to achieve for example
a career goals, the next step is identifying how we will develop the
skills. The two main avenues for developing skills are through the following
“Education Training” and “Developmental Experience”
I consider
ways in which skill has been dissected and categorized, for the purpose of
driving analysis and action. The dissection of skill has been an important
feature of occupational psychology, notably through the idea of
competence.
One aspect
could be the domain of an activity or job tasks in which the skill-type acts.
Domains can be mapped at varying scales, with descriptions that summarize the
complex functions involved in daily work. Such maps can resemble fractal
graphs, where the description encompasses as much detail however far you drill
down.
On the
other hand, in the methods and implications we saw that most of the children
show the same developmental sequence in a given domain. To understand both
developmental commonalities and individual differences, we knew it was
important to build the analysis starting from two important phenomena: when the
context has a powerful effect on skill development and the second one is a
given behavior that can be performed via number or techniques.
The context
is also very important, the environmental factors, causes different behavior in
the developing of a skill in children. It I not merely that practice affects
the developmental maturity of a skill, but all kinds of contextual factors task,
procedure, seemingly minor details of the stimuli affect developmental step.
So we can
say that with all this environmental variations producing such powerful
effects, research that does not deal with the variations is inevitably plagued
with a huge quantity of noise in its results.
